My mind a swirling whirlwind.

Thinking back through the years of what could’ve been.

If only different choices had been made, the entire course of my life would’ve been altered.

Where I am at now in life is nowhere near where I could’ve been…

Not that I made terribly wrong decisions,

But if I had been more deliberate of making conscious choices for my future, rather than simply drifting through life… Oh, the possibilities that would’ve opened up!

Choices that could’ve presented the opportunity for a much different path than the one that I’m on today…

Not that the path I’m on now is wrong, or even bad…

but, Man!  My life could be so much better… and now the chance to create those opportunities is gone…

…. and so the wanderings of the mind go….

If left unchecked, these thoughts of regret wield a terrifying amount of power

It’s like swimming out to sea with a ship anchor tied around your neck…

You long to make strides forward, but you only plummet deeper and deeper into the dark, murky depths of the ocean
The longer you dwell on thoughts of regret, the more immobilized you become,
Completely unable to move forward with any sense of purpose or passion…. trapped in the mundane.

To remain in such a place of self-wallowing is detrimental to your ability and responsibility of pursuing God’s purpose for your life.  Additionally it shows a lack of faith and trust in our heavenly Father.

For starters, we must realize that we never fully understand God’s purpose for our lives.  So, when a drastic curve ball of life comes, or if we wake up one day and realize that we are nowhere near where we intended to be years ago… God is not surprised.

If you feel as if you “missed out” on God’s purpose for your life, I would ask you this: How big is your God?  Is He that small that you can “ruin” His plans for you?  Can He not redeem all things?

The promise of Jeremiah 29:11 still rings true for your life: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Not sure of where to go, what to pursue…. start by cutting off thoughts of regret.  Ask God to reveal to you His plans for you.  It may only be a point in a direction, or an invigorated passion, but as you seek God, He will direct you.  And as He did for my life, when I thought I had missed my God-given purpose, He revealed to me a calling so much bigger than I had imagined before!  I don’t know all that He has in store for me, but I’m walking by faith, expecting the unexpected, and enjoying the journey God has me on.  When I become perplexed, I go to Him for clarity and wisdom.

Our God and King has amazing plans for your life, full of divine purpose!  And as long as you’re walking with Him, life is an exciting adventure… Seek God, and He will direct your path.
